The Dutch Environmental Law Association was founded in 1982 and it provides a network for legal professionals working in environmental law, including water law, and nature conservation law. The members of our association work in various sectors and legal professions, such as , such as law firms. national, provincial, and municipal governments, environmental agencies, businesses, academia, and civil society organizations.
Young professionals and students also participate in our activities and organize specific activities as VMR Jong (Young VMR). Students can compete biennially for the Piet Gilhuis Thesis Prize. Within our association, you will find professionals specializing in environmental law who closely monitor developments in legislation and case law. We organize meetings on current events or in-depth courses and discuss specific topics in detail in our annual publications. Members collaborate in working groups to discuss sub-areas within their field, such as environmental criminal law, licensing, supervision and enforcement, and global developments. Our members also write short blogs about current developments. By encouraging input from diverse perspectives, we offer an independent platform for discussion. We regularly collaborate with other Dutch, Flemish and European associations. The association's activities are made possible by membership dues, income from special in-depth afternoon sessions, and financial support from different companies through sponsorships.
